Welcome
"Welcome to my website. The site features galleries of my own work, primarily nature and landscape photographs of the central Oregon coast. I've also written some technical articles regarding digital photography. Feel free to wander around, read articles and view galleries. The site (gallery areas in particular) have a few rough edges that I'll be smoothing out over the next several days. Framed and matted prints of selected images will be available for purchase shortly, both online and in our soon-to-open gallery in Newport. - Don xx" The above was written by Don before his passing! Don Lashier Donald R. Lashier, the father of Newport Internet, 62, of Newport, Oregon died May 5, 2008 in Corvallis after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 21, 1945 in St. Helena, Calif. and grew up in Berrien Springs, Mich., where his father taught physics at Andrews University. In 1959, the family moved to Glendale, Calif., where Lashier graduated from Glendale Academy. He continued his education at UCLA, graduating in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, with minors in psychology and history. From 1968 to 1972, he was a computer researcher for the Advanced Research Project Agency of the Department of Defense at SDC Corp. He co-authored the world's first database graphing program, one of the first point-and-click interfaces, and played a minor role in the development of ARPANET, the predecessor of the modern Internet. He took a break from office work and worked as a truck driver from 1976 to 1982, a time he said was probably the most interesting and enlightening part of his career and certainly the most enjoyable. He returned to programming in 1983 and spent two years as a programmer and analyst with the City of Eugene and then for 10 years as a data communications consultant and software author with his own company, Parasoft. In 1995, he and wife, Randi Robinson, settled in Newport, where they co-owned and operated Newport Internet, one of the coast's first Internet Service Providers. Lashier authored NexDir, a content management system, allowing clients to update their own websites. Lashier was also an accomplished photographer. His photographs were primarily of nature and landscapes of the central Oregon coast. His website: www.lashier.com, is home to both his photographs and photography articles he wrote. Lashier loved the mountains and was an avid rock climber and backpacker in his younger years. He was preceded in death by his parents. This website will remain active for some time to come so that Don's articles and photos will be available for viewing. To those of you who knew Don, you know he was an exceptional man who will be greatly missed. There was a Celebration of Life for Don at the Newport Performing Arts Center on June 28, 2008.
